London, Apr.29 (ANI): In a historical moment in the 269 years of the Muirfield Village Golf Club, which is a host to the Open Championship in July, the club is being pressured by women politicians into admitting women members also.
The move comes after Georgia's Augusta National Golf Club lifted their bans on women members before the US Masters earlier this month, the Daily Express reports.
Scottish sports minister Shona Robison hopes that there will be an end to single-sex memberships soon as Former US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Darla Moore, the philanthropist, have taken the initiative into joining golf clubs.
However, Muirfield's spokesperson has pointed out that Britain law permits both men-only and women-only sports clubs, adding that there are more women-only clubs than men-only ones. (ANI)
