Pietersen targeting Ashes return despite 'still hurting' knee injury

London, Fri, 26 Apr 2013 ANI

London, Apr 26 (ANI): Star England batsman Kevin Pietersen has said that he is targeting returning to the team in time for the back-to-back Ashes series, although he admitted that his current injury is still hurting him a lot.

Pietersen has been ruled out of the early international season and the Champions Trophy due to bruising in his right knee, the Mirror reports.

Revealing that he still not lost focus on battling with the arch-rivals Australians during the series, Pietersen said that he is desperate to be ready and fit for the Ashes.

However, the controversial cricketer further said that his knee is still sore and the injury is still hurting him, adding that although he is ready to play in the Ashes, he is still working on getting fit and cannot say anything until he has a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Pietersen said that he and South African captain Graeme Smith, with whom he had often traded verbal blows down the years, have worked out their differences, adding that they have a lot of mutual friends and are getting to know each other. (ANI)
