'Banned' Butt ready for PCB's anti-corruption rehab programme

Islamabad , Thu, 25 Apr 2013 ANI

Islamabad, Apr 25 (ANI): Banned Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has said that he has offered to join an anti-corruption rehabilitation programme following the dismissal of his appeal against a spot-fixing ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2011 banned Butt for 10 years, with five suspended on the condition that he commits no further offences and takes part in a programme of anti-corruption education, The Daily Times reports.

According to the former captain, he has offered his availability for the rehabilitation and is ready to appear whenever the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) orders him to.

According to the report, Butt had expressed his confidence at making a career comeback after serving out the reminder of his ban, even as PCB chairman Mohammad Zaka Ashraf hinted that the banned players will be allowed to feature in first-class matches and their performances will be monitored.

The report further said that Butt, along with teammates Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir, was banned for contriving deliberate no-balls for cash during the 2010 Lord's Test against England.

Aamir, who pleaded guilty in Britain, featured in an ICC educational video last year and also attended lectures from psychologist Maqbool Sabri, the report added. (ANI)
