Srinagar, April 24 (ANI): Tremors were felt in Srinagar and on other parts of northern India after an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck16 miles northwest of Afghan city of Jalalabad on Wednesday.
However, no casualties were reported.
Locals in Srinagar, confirmed the tremors.
"People in the area felt tremors and everyone immediately rushed out of their offices and shops to open spaces. There has not been much loss. However we felt tremors," said a local, Adil Sheikh.
On April 16, tremors measuring 7.8 magnitude on the ritcher scale with its epicenter at Iran-Pakistan border, was felt across large swathes of northern India.
The epicenter of the quake was located 201 km (125 miles) southeast of the Iranian city of Zahedan and 250 km northwest of Turbat in Pakistan. But with communications to the area badly disrupted, officials gave differing assessments of the casualty toll.
Tremors were then felt across northern India, including capital New Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
