Srinagar, April 24 (ANI): In a bid to woo more tourists to the Kashmir valley, the department of tourism is promoting the region's popular almond flavoured tea.
Popularly known as Kahwa, tourists said they enjoyed having it in the picturesque Tulip garden.
"It was really nice. It is very new to me as I had not tasted anything like this before. The taste was unique and I enjoyed the tea as it was made up of saffron. Saffron is also unique in this place. It tasted good," said Shruti Pathak, a tourist.
Kahwa is made with saffron, and garnished with almond silvers.
The Department of floriculture introduced Kahwa, to help visitors to keep the warm during wintry weather of the valley.
Kashmir's floriculture department celebrates the blossoming of nearly 1.6 million tulips of different hues and colours to host the Spring Festival at the picturesque Tulip Garden.
Taking a cue from the world famous Tulip Gardens of Holland, authorities in Kashmir imported and planted millions of tulip bulbs to add to other touristy charms like the famed Mughal Gardens and the houseboats on Dal Lake.
The tea is served from a traditional kettle known as 'Samovar.'
"We are showcasing the Kashmiri culture to the tourists in the form of Kahwa. I really like to provide tourists with this traditional drink. I make kahwa with saffron, almonds, dried grapes, cardamom, and cinnamon. The tourists feel very happy by drinking this, that's why we have kept it here in the tulip garden," said Nazir Ahmad, tea seller.
The garden was thrown open to locals and tourists on March 27.
By April, tulips are usually in full bloom in and around Srinagar, lending an ethereal atmosphere to the Valley, which has been dubbed by many as 'paradise on Earth'.
The tulip festival is held annually in the month of April when the climate is most conducive for the tulips to bloom. This year another 2.3 million bulbs have been planted over an area of 15 hectares with eighty varieties of the flowers. (ANI)
