'Disgraced' Suarez's ban over biting Chelsea's Ivanovic to continue into next season

London, Apr 23 (ANI): Liverpool striker Luis Suarez's ban over his shocking attempt to bite Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic may reportedly continue into the next season as the Football Association (FA) sets to charge him with a possible eight-match ban.

Suarez, whose ban may run until September- the start of the 2013-14 campaign, faces an automatic suspension that will start immediately, the Mirror reports.

According to a FA spokesman, as the alleged conduct of Suarez constitutes violent conduct, the body has decided that the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is insufficient in these circumstances.

However, Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has said that Suarez will be offered one last chance, adding that while the club deplores the actions of the player and has hit him with a 250,000-pound fine, they are willing to help him resolve his problems.

Ayre further said that the club has brought in leading sports psychologist Dr Steve Peters to work with Suarez in a bid to control the destructive behaviour patterns that are threatening his career, adding that he and manager Brendan Rodgers have warned Suarez not to repeat his actions again.

The report said that the area of expertise of Peters, who already works at Anfield one day a week, is in helping sportsman control their damaging emotional knee-jerk instincts, and replace them with a more logical response.

According to Ayre, the Uruguayan player has expressed his contrition and regrets over the incident, although Ivanovic has refused to accept Suarez's apology even though he told the police that the matter was closed.

Fortunately for the defender, Suarez's teeth did not break the skin and Ivanovic sustained no injury in the incident which has scandalised the game and forced Liverpool to fine their star asset ahead of his looming FA ban, the report added. (ANI)
