Srinagar, Mon, 22 Apr 2013 ANI

Srinagar, April 22 (ANI): The flower industry in the Kashmir Valley is booming due to the high demand for flowers and their saplings.

Local residents are inclined to gardening and beautification of their personal lawns.

With winter on its last lap and spring making an entry, flower vendors are enjoying good business returns through the sale of saplings and seasonal plants.

"A lot of people in Kashmir, especially the unemployed youth, who are educated, are coming into this trade. They have formed their own small nurseries as there is a lot of demand for flowers and their saplings. A lot of new colonies have been constructed and people living in those colonies have started doing gardening and are beautifying their lawns, the demand for flowers and saplings increases," said S. Shabir, a floriculture officer on Monday.

The demand for flower saplings is increasing due to the growing of new and attractive varieties. (ANI)
