London, Apr 21 (ANI): Chelsea's interim manager Rafael Benitez has said that Fernando Torres has revamped himself into a more fitter, happier and a productive form following a strenuous workout stint in the gym.
The 50 million-pound striker, who has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season as Chelsea look to secure a top-four finish and win the Europa League, is set to play against his former club Liverpool today since a record-breaking move in 2011, the Sun reports.
Reckoning that Torres, who is Britain's most expensive footballer, will be his legacy when he finally quits Stamford Bridge at the end of next month, Benitez said that the player has been following a specific plan in the gym with the team's fitness coach Paco de Miguel.
According to Benitez, Torres has been lifting some weights and also working on his speed for which he has become more stronger and quicker, adding that De Miguel has used the same fitness plan with Torres which he used while the trio were together at Liverpool.
Benitez further said that apart from his time at the gym, Torres has also been improving his form on the training pitch with both Bolo Zenden and Steve Holland, adding that although all the training had put an extra load on Torres, he did not object even though Chelsea has been playing two or three games every week.
Torres, who scored 81 goals in three-and-a-half seasons at Liverpool, is likely to start on the bench today as Benitez continues to shuffle his pack, the report added. (ANI)
