Washington, Apr.17 (ANI): Brazil officials are reportedly planning tougher security strategies ahead of 2014 Football World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics following the Boston Marathon blasts.
The secretary general of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Jerome Valcke has said that in the wake of the Boston attack, they are already planning for tougher security that would include secret service agents, police officers from 32 countries participating in the world cup, military and Interpol, Fox News reports.
Valcke has confirmed a second layer of security protection around Brazil's stadiums, which will inspect people coming through, adding that a satellite would provide surveillance in the area, similar to the one used during the World Cup in South Africa.
The Rio Olympic committee has stated that security is a 'top priority' and has deployed its state personnel for the work, who plan to train 4500 officers for strategies against terrorist attacks, bombings and chemical attacks before the events.
Stating that Brazilian authorities have been awaiting the investigation reports, Brazil's foreign minister Antonio Patriota has said that Brazilian government is confident that the measures would be enough to improve security around the stadium.
According to some professors, the World Cup budget will increase for police reinforcements at sensitive areas, adding that they have given concrete information on security strategies such as military police officers around the stadium perimeters and FIFA's plan to equip security guards with non-lethal weapons.
