New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Industry, government and civil society must work together to ensure that India grows sustainably and maintains a steady growth of 7-8 percent, experts said Monday.

Speaking at the Business for Environment (B4E) Global Summit here, S. Ramadorai, adviser to the prime minister, National Council on Skill Development, said resources are not infinite and it is time that both the government and the industry join hands to ensure sustainable development.

"According to studies, 80 percent of India's infrastructure is yet to be built and we should ensure that it is built sustainably and country continues to grow at 7-8 percent," said Ramadorai.

He suggested India should develop its own indigenous solutions to address the need of local population.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh called for involvement of common people for attaining sustainable growth.

"The government and the industry have to come out with solution looking at local conditions as no solution can fit all sizes. I personally believe that one cannot deliver without involving people and people should be part of solution," Singh said.

"There have been examples where best technologies had failed to deliver as people were not involved," he said.

Ashok Khosla, president emeritus, The Club of Rome, said industry can work with civil society and government to ensure sustainable development.
