JD-U will not break partnership with BJP: Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, Sun, 14 Apr 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Sunday said its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was very old and it did not want to break the partnership. He further added that so-called differences between both parties is a projection of the media.

Addressing a meeting of the JD (U) national executive here, Yadav said: "Our alliance with the BJP is very old and we don't want to break it. We want to continue this alliance. So-called differences between the BJP and the JD-U is being projected by the media."

Yadav further admitted that the party had been weakened since it had merged with the Samata Party and there were many challenges facing it.

"There are challenges everywhere and every time. We have not been able to make the party reach where it was supposed to reach," he added.

He further said: "I will work to strengthen the party by taking along everybody with me in the same manner that you have unanimously entrusted me with the responsibility."

The JD-U, which is an important ally in the NDA, may ask soon the BJP to name its Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The Janata Dal-United, which appears to have made up its mind that it would accept only someone with a secular image, does not want to wait till the very end and wants the BJP to declare its leader for 2014 now.

The JD-U, which has 20 Lok Sabha MPs, is the second largest member of the NDA coalition after the BJP.

The BJP, which heads the NDA, had earlier this week said that a decision on the Prime Ministerial candidate would be decided jointly. (ANI)
