Nobody from High Commission injured in Bangladesh blasts, assures MEA

New Delhi, Sat, 13 Apr 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Apr. 13 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday said that nobody has been injured in the explosion that took place in Bangladesh near the car, which was being used by the Indian envoy.

"As per our information, yesterday while the High Commissioner was attending a function in Khulna, there were crude bomb explosions approximately 20 meters away from where his car was parked. As per our information, nobody involved with the High Commission was either injured nor was the car damaged in any form. I may also clarify that this was not the High Commission's vehicle. This was a local car hired by the High Commission," said MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

"The High Commissioner continued his engagements in Khulna. Today he is in Jessore visiting the Ramakrishna Mission and he will fly back to Dhaka as per his pre-scheduled programme," he added.

Akbaruddin, who was responding to a question over yesterday's attack in Bangladesh on the High Commissioner's vehicle, said there is no cause for concern there.

"Since those explosions, High Commissioner has received a large number of calls conveying concern and assuring him that security will be provided to him and all High Commission officials. So, we have no cause for concern there," said Akbaruddin.

"Our High Commission is in touch with Bangladeshi authorities who are investigating the case and let us wait for the outcome of those investigations before jumping to any conclusion whether this was even an attack related to the High Commission at all," he added.

According to reports, unidentified miscreants yesterday hurled three crude bombs apparently targeting a parked car being used by Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran in Bangladesh during a visit to south-western Khulna district. (ANI)
