New Delhi, Apr. 11 (ANI): Amid speculation that the Janata Dal (United) may ask the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to name its Prime Ministerial candidate soon, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Thursday asked the NDA constituents to make their stand clear.
"It would better if the other constituents of the NDA make it clear whether they believe in secularism or they will support communal politics," said Tewari.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader questioned the veracity of JD-U stand.
"It is difficult to say whether it is a gimmick or the JD (U) is really serious about it because they have been saying it for last two to three years," he said.
The BJP, which heads the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), said a decision on the Prime Ministerial candidate would be decided jointly.
"We don't want to comment on what they say in their political programmes. Everybody will abide by the decision taken by the NDA in its meeting," said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
The JD (U), which appears to have made up its mind that it would accept only someone with a secular image, does not want to wait till the very end and want the BJP to declare its leader for 2014 general election now.
Moreover, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been a known critic of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is touted by many to be the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate.
Kumar runs a coalition government with the BJP in Bihar. (ANI)
