Sydney, Apr. 11 (ANI): Yamaha has started working on the 'world's cheapest motorcycle' at its research centre in Uttar Pradesh, India, that will be exported at a price of 500 US dollars, though its launch date in India has yet not been revealed.
Customers for the bike will not only be restricted to India, Latin America and Africa but also to the country of low - cost manufactured goods, China, The Daily Telegraph reports.
With an engine power of 100 cc, the low - cost bike will give a substantial cost advantage as the manufacture will take place in India, said Chief Executive of India Yamaha Motor, Hiroyuki Suzuki. This will also help in deciding a competitive price range for the bike.
Yamaha known for its sporty and performance - led bikes is now looking forward to aim at maximum commuters in India, according to some analysts who view it as a marketing strategy. Some others still believe the cheaply - rated bike is being made for the low - cost good experts. The Chinese are famous for running a market for cheap electric bikes, claims Fortune Equity Brokers analyst, Mahantesh Sabarad.
However, Senior Yamaha Research and Development Manager, Toshikazu Kobayashi maintains that they are targeting to develop the cheapest bike for both Indian and overseas customers. The Yamaha group will soon face their rivals, Bajaj Auto who will compete them in producing some other low - cost bike variants for the export market.
Currently, Yamaha is responsible for yielding 400,000 Indian units, with the goal set at a million by 2014. (ANI)
