'Beehive' metaphor gone over head of 'self appointed jingoist': Congress

New Delhi , Sun, 07 Apr 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 7 (ANI): The Congress party on Sunday hit back at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after he called Rahul Gandhi's 'beehive' remark an insult to the nation, saying that the metaphor has gone over the head of a self appointed jingoist.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari said: " 'Beehive' metaphor denoting energy diligence and cohesion completely went over heads of some self appointed jingoists."

Echoing similar sentiments, Union Minister Kapil Sibal said: "Public will give an answer to this in the 2014 election. There are people in this country which I don't want to name but just want to say that they lack in common sense."

The Congress Vice President had made the beehive reference at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) conference, when he said that India was a complex, buzzing country.

Commenting on the remarks, Modi said for his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the country is not a beehive but a mother nation.

"I happened to listen to a speech by a Congress leader two days back, whose words are considered to be very important for that party. I was deeply shocked and pained when he compared India to beehive," Modi said in Ahmedabad during the celebration of 33rd foundation day of BJP.

"For you, this might be a beehive but for us this country is our mother. Hundred crore people of this country are our brothers and sisters. This is a sacred land of saints and seers," Modi said.

"Friends from Congress, please do not insult our country. If you do not understand the language of people of India, go and learn from somewhere. But due to your ignorance, do not try to destroy the culture and tradition of this country," he added. (ANI)
