London, Apr. 6 (ANI): A group of researchers has built a prototype of an ultralight, inexpensive and robust flying drone that can be operated upon by one person and give a detailed 360-degree view of their surroundings.
Taskin Padir and his group of colleagues at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts have built a drone that they have named IPASS, New Scientist reported.
The drone prototype uses three cameras to build an image of the surrounding landscape in all directions.
Currently, the photographs are downloaded to a laptop, but Padir and his team is planning to have the drone transmit the images wirelessly to a mobile device.
The drone uses an electric motor to drive two rotors for propulsion and stabilising aerofoils are clipped to its body before its launch.
However, it has still not met the altitude standard of 100 feet that is required by the air force and the craft is susceptible to crosswinds. (ANI)
