London, Apr. 5 (ANI): Malawian President Joyce Banda has blasted Madonna for allegedly reneging on a pledge to build a 10-million-pound academy for girls and opted to build 10 schools - without consulting officials.
Banda said the 55-year-old singer just renovated an already existing block to build ten schools.
"No one should just come here and say 'I'm building a classroom' without needs assessment. It is an insult to the people," the Sun quoted her as saying.
But Trevor Neilson, who manages Madonna's charitable work, provided details of the schools built by her project, adding that every single one of the schools is a free standing structure.
The pop diva set up Raising Malawi after she adopted her son David Banda there in 2006 and daughter Mercy James in 2009. (ANI)
