Off-spinner Lyon says India whitewash made Oz team stronger

Sydney , Thu, 04 Apr 2013 ANI

Sydney, Apr 4 (ANI): Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has said that his team's disastrous 4-0 rout in India has made them strong, and warned the critics against writing off Australia.

Stating that a dubious India tour axing after a below the par performance in Chennai had delivered both the low point of his life and fortitude to once again become Australia's frontline spinner, Lyon said that the team still has the skills to sparkle in the Ashes, News.com.au reports.

Although Australia had its worst defeat in 34 years against India, Lyon said that he is not disappointed because a team has its low and high points and added that the players and the management are starting a whole new team culture.

Lyon further said that the team knew that the India tour was going to be tough and added that although they had gone through their hardest period in their careers, they have come out strong and have gained the skills to do whatever is required in a similar situation in the future.

Having emerged as the only Australian, with skipper Michael Clarke, to land a blow in a 4-0 whitewash loss to India, Lyon believes he can forge an Ashes union with refugee leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed.

Lyon further said that his relations with coach Mickey Arthur and Clarke are stronger despite the mid-tour demotion, adding that he and the team are looking forward to the year ahead. (ANI)
