Islamabad, Apr. 04 (ANI): Batting coach must be Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) top priority if they wanted to get desired and satisfactory results in upcoming events, former Test cricketer Younas Ahmad has said.
Talking with The Nation, Younas said the main reason behind Pakistan team's poor performance was lack in batting strength, which cost the team dearly and lost Tests matches.
He said that it is batting strength which helps big teams like Australia, England and India in earning victories.
He added that the PCB should hire a batting coach as soon as possible as only a good batting coach, either foreigner or local, can guide batsmen well how to stay at crease and how to play big innings for their team.
According to the report, Ahmad added that the batting coach-less team seemed struggling during the South Africa tour.
He said that most of their batsmen lost their wickets for very minor and trivial mistakes which can be overcome easily and the same batsmen can produce surprising results for Pakistan.
Ahmad added that though Nasir Jamshed was good batsman he repeated the same mistakes and wasted his wicket due to lack of footwork while playing swing balls.
He also criticized selection of team for South Africa tour, adding if the selectors had selected the team on merit the results would have been changed.
He suggested the selectors must select a genuine all-rounder for Pakistan team for the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in England in June.
Talking about all-rounder Shahid Afridi, Younas said that he is now no more a genuine all-rounder so he must now focus on his bowling.
He said he had already offered his services to the PCB to work as a batting consultant with national team helping the players in removing their flaws and mistakes, but he did not even receive a single reply from the board, the report added. (ANI)
