PCB ropes in Akram to mentor Pak quicks

Johannesburg , Thu, 04 Apr 2013 ANI

Johannesburg, Apr 4 (ANI): Former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Wasim Akram has been brought in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to supervise a 10-day specialised camp for fast bowlers in Karachi.

Stating that it will prepare special pitches for the national team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in England in June, a PCB official said that Akram will train not only national team pace bowlers, but also some upcoming young and raw pace bowlers in the camp, Sport24 reports.

Akram's appointment came on the heels of Pakistan's chief selector Iqbal Qasim recent comments that the team could face a fast bowling crisis as pace talent was drying up in the country following a disappointing show from the Pakistani pacers in this year's Test series against South Africa in which they suffered a whitewash.

Akram is Pakistan's most successful fast bowler with 414 Test and 502 one-day international wickets, the report adds. (ANI)
