Punjab, Apr 1 (ANI): Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari on Monday questioned the Punjab Government's competence in maintaining law and order after hearing of the death of police assistant sub-inspector Gurdev Singh on an arterial highway of the state.
Accusing the Akali Dal-BJP Government in the state of perpetrating and encouraging complete lawlessness and anarchy, Tewari said: "It would be far more advisable that rather than going to Goa to deliberate about what is going to happen in 2014, the Akali Dal-BJP combined starts paying attention to the law and order situation in Punjab because there is complete lawlessness and anarchy, which is prevailing in the state."
Unidentified miscreants killed assistant sub-inspector Singh while he was on a night patrol. Singh was shot near Haveli Restaurant located on the Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway early on Monday morning.
The Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Sharad Satya Chouhan said Singh was shot as he signalled some unidentified miscreants to stop on the highway. (ANI)
