Murray eyeing No.2 spot in world rankings ahead of Sony Open final

London , Sun, 31 Mar 2013 ANI

London, Mar 31 (ANI): Brit tennis ace Andy Murray is eyeing number two spot in the world rankings ahead of his Sony Open final clash with David Ferrer on Sunday.

In Friday's semi-final it was not Murray's glittering tennis but his bottomless reserves of stamina that helped him edge past 34-year-old Tommy Haas in three sets, the Telegraph reports.

To claim the Miami event for the second time would be particularly sweet, not only because this is effectively his home court but also because victory today would propel him above Federer into the No 2 spot on the rankings ladder.

Murray said he would like to get to No 2 this week, adding would be nice, because it would show he is moving in the right direction.

Murray added you do normally benefit from better draws the higher your ranking is but worrying about the quarter finals or semi-finals of the French Open is pointless for him at this stage, adding it's such a long way away and he would rather focus on trying to win his matches. (ANI)
