Breakfast at Tiffany's production wanted Capote's ashes for Broadway opening

New York, March 24 (ANI): The production team of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', which is based on a novella by Truman Capote, tried to bring in one secret surprise guest- the ashes of late author- for its opening on Broadway this week.

Reps for the show - starring "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke, and based on Capote's 1958 novella - even offered complimentary first-class round-trip airfare for the ashes and their owner, Johnny Carson's ex Joanne Carson, to travel from Bel Air to New York and appear at an Edison Ballroom after-party, the New York Post reported.

A source said that Joanne was Johnny's closest confidante in his later years and she keeps a portion of his cremated remains in an urn in her home, in the room in which he died in 1984.

A 'Breakfast' rep of Capote's ashes confirmed that they did try to get him at the bash but Joanne said that he always wanted to see Holly Golightly open on Broadway, and they thought that it would have been poignant for the entire company.

The rep added that he thinks that ultimately the risk of theft was just too high, but the author was certainly there in spirit. (ANI)
