New Delhi, Mar. 23 (ANI): Former Indian marathon runner Sunita Godara on Saturday demanded that Congress MLA from Badshahpur, Rao Dharam Pal, should be punished as per the law for his indecent comment against Dronacharya awardee and national-level Kabaddi coach Sunil Dabas.
" I am Asian marathon champion. I have done my 30 years of running. Till the age of 50, I was running in shorts. And this was my profession; I was a career international runner, got international gold medal. This girl Sunil Dabas is a Dronacharya awardee, she is a kabaddi coach. In the sports function or in her college function wherever she was, she was wearing pant and shirt," Godara told Asian News International (ANI).
"And I believe for a sportswoman, pant and shirt is the most decent wear because we don't wear saris normally in the sports functions, we don't wear burqas and we don't wear shorts and tights because that we wear in the stadium. So, the person whosoever MLA or whosoever politician, his comment was indecent. He was indecent by commenting the coach who was wearing pant and shirt. So, the girl was perfectly alright, but the MLA was indecent. He should be punished for that. And now the law is also there is place, ordinance is also there in place. This MLA should be punished as per the law," she added.
The MLA allegedly insulted the coach of the national women's kabaddi team in public on Friday, causing the distressed woman to faint, and triggering protests from her wards.
The legislator allegedly told Dabas to dress 'appropriately' in a sari and not in 'shirt and jeans'. The MLA was chief guest at the annual day celebration at Gurgaon's Dronacharya College of Engineering, where Dabas is a member of the staff.
Dabas was taken to a hospital and later shifted to Medicity here.
Students of the college protested the remarks made by the MLA, claiming that she fainted because she was humiliated by him.
An FIR has not been lodged in this case as yet since national-level Kabaddi coach did not given an official statement on regaining consciousness. (ANI)
