Mauritius seeks IT investments from India

West Bengal,Business/Economy,Science/Tech, Thu, 21 Mar 2013 IANS

Kolkata, March 21 (IANS) Mauritius Thursday sought investments from Indian information technology (IT) companies, promising them special benefits.

"Mauritius is only known as a tourist destination. We want to make it a preferred and secure investment destination as well," Mauritius ICT Minister Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum said here.

"We will welcome any investment from India in IT. You can come and explore any opportunity," Chedumbrum said when asked which areas his country was seeking investment from Indian IT companies.

He was talking to media on the sidelines of Indiasoft 2013, a international IT exhibition and conference being held here. He said Mauritius would provide special benefits to companies which invest in the island nation's IT sector.

"We're bilingual. We speak English and French with a good accent, which will specially help as far as BPO (business process outsourcing) is concerned. We have direct flights to India everyday. Doing business in our country will not be difficult," Chedumbrum said.

He also expressed confidence that the two countries would find solutions to the differences on the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement in April when the two sides meet in New Delhi.

"We are working on that. Our finance minister will come to India in the next month and these issues will be resolved," Chedumbrum said.
