Edible hotel made from cake opens for 1 night in London

London , Wed, 20 Mar 2013 ANI

London, Mar 20 (ANI): The world's first hotel made entirely of cake has opened its gates to guests for one night.

The edible hotel within a hotel in Soho in central London used 600 kilos of sugar to build and was created by more than 14 artists who spent 2,000 hours baking and 900 hours in decorating, the Mirror reported.

The edible hotel has vanilla sponge cushions, has windows and walls clad with 2,000 macaroons, a hand-stitched rug made from 1,081 meringues, 20 kilos of marshmallow garlands, windowsills built entirely from fudge and a bath filled with caramel-coated popcorn.

Guests will even find books to read on the bedside table.

The hotel features eight tasting rooms, which include a Mediterranean-inspired bedroom with 10 metres of edible bunting, a Pirates of the Caribbean room with a treasure chest full of edible pearls, ginger spiced doubloons and cutlasses, a British-inspired golden syrup sugar room and a South Pacific room with a two metre-high Easter Island statue made from chocolate mud cake.

A spokesman of Tate and Lyle Sugars said that the group that made the hotel said that they believed that the cake hotel would perfectly capture the excitement, inspiration and expertise behind the creation of their new range of golden and brown cane sugars. (ANI)
