Mohali, Mar 18 (ANI): India won the third Test match against Australia here by six wickets on the fifth and final day of play.
The win ensured that the hosts regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-0 score line and one match remaining in Delhi, starting from March 22.
India reached the victory target of 133 with 15 balls to spare, surviving a spirited bowling performance by the Australians.
Australia scored 233 in their second innings with the much-maligned Phil Hughes top-scoring with a valiant 69.
Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and left-arm spinner Ravidra Jadeja picked up three wickets each.
Shikhar Dhawan was declared the man of the match for his blistering 187-run knock in the first innings.
After the win captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said his players exploited the conditions well, adding even the fast bowlers have done well despite conditions helping spinners.
Dhoni lauded Jadeja's performance, saying his inclusion has helped, as it meant they were playing with five specialist bowlers.
Dhoni added it was one of the best batting exhibitions when it comes to batting in pairs by Murli Vijay and Dhawan, adding the pitch got better to bat on a bit.
Dhoni further said Kumar's wickets in the second innings helped them win the game, adding they may try a few things in Delhi but it is important to win all Tests. (ANI)
