Singhbhum, Mar 17 (ANI): Maoist militants have allegedly killed six villagers after a kangaroo court set up by them in Manmaru village in the Saranda forest in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum District pronounced them guilty.
The six people executed were accused of murdering two locals from the Manmaru village on March 3 and their bodies were dumped somewhere in the jungle. Those bodies are yet to be recovered.
Though the villagers launched a search for the bodies, the administration was reportedly not informed about the incident.
The Maoists intervened, as they wanted to project themselves as those who are concerned about the welfare of the villagers.
According to sources, the Maoists nabbed the six persons and held a kangaroo court in the nearby jungles on March 13 where the rebels brutally beat them to death.
The bodies of the six murdered men were recovered by the police from the jungles on Saturday and soon a search operation was also launched by them to look for the bodies of the two other men who had earlier been murdered by the group of six.
Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Kamboj said, "These people were forcibly carried out, and no public court as such was held in which any statement was taken. These people directly branded as anti-Maoists and killed off. This is the statement given by the families of the victims.
Meanwhile, a local villager said, "If the administration had acted on time then this incident would not have happened. All these six men would have been alive today. People have been searching for the two dead bodies. But if the police had intervened then these other men would have been saved."
Maoist activities have increased in the last few weeks. It is also becoming tough for the locals to live. The local Government is also finding it hard to resolve Maoist issues. (ANI)
