Tripura,Defence/Security, Sat, 16 Mar 2013 IANS

Agartala, March 16 (IANS) India's borders with China and Myanmar are stable and peaceful and there are no immediate threats on these frontiers, Lt. Gen. A.K. Sahni, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, said here Saturday.

"There are no immediate threats along these borders. These frontiers are stable and peaceful," Lt. Gen. Sahni told reporters.

"We take corrective measures when we find any deficiencies along the borders. Some patches of border with Myanmar in Manipur are being fenced," he said.

According to the army official, development activities were going on both sides of the border and people along the boundaries were also keeping close relations with each others.

On counter-terrorism, he said: "Myanmar has assured India...that Myanmar's territory would not be allowed to be used by the northeast extremists."

"Recently, the security forces in Tamu town in Myanmar seized huge quantities of drugs, arms and ammunition (meant) to be smuggled to northeast militants. This shows that Myanmar is sincere to curb illegal activities harming India," the army official said.

Sahni, based in Dimapur in Nagaland, came here Thursday and visited different areas along the India-Bangladesh border with Tripura. He also met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and army, paramilitary and security officials here.
