Thiruvananthapuram, March 12 (IANS) Malayalam filmmakers and producers have jointly decided to release new movies through online medium Channel 7music.com, which will be launched on April 14, Vishu Day.
Kerala Film Producers Association general secretary Sasi Ayyanchira said the concept had been planned since the past few months.
It will give an opportunity to producers, who are struggling to survive in the film world, but it is likely to affect the satellite rights' rates drastically, said a statement.
The audience will have to pay a definite amount for watching the Malayalam movies online.
The move is to combat piracy, and there will be fixed timings with four shows per day - just as in cinemas.
All that viewers need to do is to log on to www.channel7music.com and click on 'Cinema Theatre'.
After completing the registration process, the customers will get user IDs
and passwords. There will be separate log-in for the producers.
The producers will take the final decision on the rates, number of shows and also the country where the film could be released.
Viewers will also be able to watch movie trailers to decide whether to watch a movie or not. Viewers can make payments through debit cards, credit cards and top-up cards.
