Srinagar, Mar. 12 (ANI): There was a ruckus inside the Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Tuesday as legislators belonging to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the refusal of the Central Government to give back the mortal remains of 2001 Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.
The PDP legislators disrupted the proceedings of the house and denounced the government over inaction, as they demanded the mortal remains of Guru.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed her anguish over the deteriorating of law and order situation in the state.
"Unfortunately, the statement made by the Home Minister yesterday. It is very obvious that the state government was involved in the hanging. They have also neglected the plea to get the body back to Kashmir. It shows again that the state government is involved," Mufti told media here.
" If this is the way the state government is going to run the state with force and curfews while living in the democratic country. If the state government behaves in such a way in a democratic country then what are we to do? Where are we to go?" she added.
Meanwhile, Engineer Rashid, an independent legislator, told media here that everyone should support the resolution to bring back the mortal remains of Guru.
"I have placed a resolution with the assembly to get the mortal remains back in accordance with the law and in accordance with the assembly. The resolution was brought on 12th February and if both parties are serious then they should get up and support this," said Rashid.
Earlier in February, curfew was imposed in the state and separatist outfit, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), had called for a shutdown in the wake of Guru's execution.
Afzal Guru was hanged at Delhi's Tihar Jail at 8 a.m. on February 9. He was buried inside the prison complex soon after his execution.
President Pranab Mukherjee rejected Guru's mercy plea on February 3 and a final decision to hang him was taken.
Guru was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on Parliament and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in 2004.
On 13th December 2001, five heavily-armed gunmen stormed the Parliament complex and opened indiscriminate fire, killing nine persons.
They included five Delhi Police personnel, a woman Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official, two Parliament watch and ward staff and a gardener.
A journalist, who was injured, died later. All five terrorists were shot dead.
Guru was arrested within hours after the attack from a bus in the national capital. (ANI)
