Oscar's plight having adverse fallout on fellow athletes

Johannesburg, Mon, 11 Mar 2013 ANI

Johannesburg, Mar. 11 (ANI): Murder accused South African sprint runner Oscar Pistorius's present situation is reportedly having an adverse effect on his fellow athletes.

In-Site Athlete Management said it was forced to cancel a planned tour to Australia for South African 400m hurdles champion Cornel Fredericks, reports Sport24.

Peet van Zyl, the athletes' agent, said he had to cancel all the races as the athletes would get a lot of media attention in Australia due to the situation Oscar now finds himself in.

Zyl, however, said he is trying his best to schedule other races overseas.

Fredericks (21) and Pistorius (26), both team-mates at the Tuks athletics club, were scheduled to participate in Sydney on Saturday and Perth later this week.

Pistorius is accused of murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day.

He was granted R 1 million bail on February 22.

On Friday, Pistorius's legal team challenged his bail conditions as unwarranted and unfair. His lawyers argued that Pistorius should be able to travel if given permission from his case investigating officer. (ANI)
