Wade cops second 'freak injury' ahead of Mohali Test

Sydney, Sun, 10 Mar 2013 ANI

Sydney, Mar 10 (ANI): Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has been injured for the second time in a row, this time getting his right ankle sprained while playing basketball during a day off, ahead of the Mohali Test at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday.

Wade had copped a blow to the face in the practice nets and had sustained a fractured cheekbone before the second Test at Hyderabad, but went on to play anyway, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris, Wade will be having scans on his injury to determine the extent of the damage as his ankle is swollen and painful, adding that the wicketkeeper will not take part in Sunday's training session.

Former Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, who played his last Test more than a year ago in the home series win over India, has been placed on standby in case Wade has to stay out from the third Test.

Haddin has been in fine form with the bat for NSW this season after being replaced by the Victorian at Test level when he had to fly home for personal reasons from the tour of the Caribbean last April, the report added. (ANI)
