Sydney, Mar 8 (ANI): Australia wicket keeper Mathew Wade has admitted the players need to support their in form captain Michael Clarke by scoring more runs against India following their crushing twin Test defeats in the ongoing four-match series.
Wade said there is no doubt Clarke has had to score a truckload of runs for them, and added he felt very disappointed when he got out in the second Test match in Hyderabad after scoring a good half century, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Wade added they had put on nearly 150 runs and they were both really going, adding if he could have hung around with him, it could have been endless.
The glove man further added individually they would like to stick around with Clarke and help him out a little bit more and take the pressure off him, but he is sure the captain is going to keep scoring runs no matter what.
The Test captain has been once again Australia's leading run-scorer with first-innings contributions of 130 and 91 in Chennai and Hyderabad but has accepted that he must move up the order to mitigate the failures of teammates, the paper said.
Wade, elevated to No.6 on this tour to accommodate the inclusion of all-rounder Moises Henriques, deserves less of the blame than some others for Clarke running out of partners.
Wade's 62 in the first innings at Hyderabad at least gave Michael Clarke a degree of companionship while the rest of the team were comparative one-night stands. (ANI)
