New Delhi, Mar.8 (ANI): Delhi Police on Friday said that it would take initiatives to promote the welfare of north-eastern residents staying in the national capital.
This was announced after Delhi Police honoured four student leaders - Raskan Ngachonmi Jonah (Naga Students' Union, Delhi), Jotam Toko Tagam (Delhi AAPSU), Huten Alexander (NSUD) and Abhijit Sharmah (All Assam Students Association, New Delhi), besides NETV chief correspondent Luit Don for their role in containing the exodus of northeasterners from other parts of the country in October 2012, and for taking up issues related to north east citizens and employees with the concerned authorities.
The quintet were felicitated during a training programme for the safety of northeasterners organized by Delhi Police at the Police Training College in Jharoda Kalan here.
Joint commissioner of Police (Training) Robin Hibu, who is also the Chief Coordinator for north east students and employees residing in Delhi, gave away the commendation certificates and Delhi Police mementoes to the student leaders.
Eight well-established legal luminaries of Delhi, one each from each of the eight north-eastern states, have been voluntarily offering legal services free of cost to north easterners.
Thirty seven representatives from the north eastern states and NGO representatives earlier participated in the training, which focussed on initiatives for the safety and security of north easterners in Delhi. By Pradeep Kumar (ANI)
