Fire engulfs more than 100 shanties in Mumbai

Mumbai , Thu, 07 Mar 2013 ANI

Mumbai, Mar 7 (ANI): A major fire broke out in a slum area of Shastri Nagar locality adjoining Mumbai's posh suburb Bandra and gutted more than a hundred dwellings on Thursday.

The fire, which broke out at around 2 a.m., spread rapidly as the area was congested.

The slum dwellers said that there were a series of LPG cylinder (Liquefied petroleum gas) blasts that contributed to the spread of fire, though the cause of the explosion has not yet been ascertained.

The inferno could not be doused soon, which resulted in destroying more than 100 dwellings.

"Three to four cylinders have exploded. This fire has consumed at least a hundred houses. It cannot be less than this. Right now, there is no news of anybody injured as everybody ran for their lives then," said Zainul, a local. (ANI)
