Kolkata, March 7 (IANS) Unable to bear the shock of her father's death from cancer, a 20-year-old woman jumped to her death from the sixth floor of a private hospital Thursday, hospital officials said.
Srirupa took the extreme step after her father Arup Chakraborty, 51, a patient of lung cancer which had spread to his bones, died early Thursday after he was admitted to the hospital Wednesday in a critical condition.
"The family and friends of the deceased were present together at the hospital when the news of the cancer patient's death was broken by the hospital authorities at 4.35 a.m. this morning," AMRI Salt Lake Hospital said in a statement.
At 4.48 am, Srirupa jumped off the hospital's sixth floor. She was pronounced dead at 6.30 a.m. Her mother had collapsed on hearing the news of her husband's death.
