Godrej, Jet Airways partner for Mumbai tower

Mumbai, March 5 (IANS) Godrej Properties Ltd and private carrier Jet Airways have joined hands to construct an iconic ground-plus-19 floor (total 20) commercial complex building at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), officials of the two companies said here Tuesday.

It has been designed by Skidmore, Owins & Merril (SOM), the architectural firm renowned for its designs of Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Freedom Tower in New York, while Mumbai's Larsen & Toubro will construct Godrej BKC.

The Godrej BKC will come up in a prime corner plot at Bandra-Kurla Complex and with 1.30 million square feet, will be among the biggest realty projects in the city.

Setting new standards for eco-friendly commercial designs, Godrej BKC is expected to be completed by 2015, said Pirojsha Godrej, MD & CEO of Godrej Properties Ltd.

"Godrej BKC will adhere to the highest standards of design and sustainability and will be a state-of-the-art commercial building. Once completed, Godrej BKC will be a landmark structure in Mumbai and India's leading commercial property," Godrej remarked.

Jet Airways CEO Nikos Kardassis said the Godrej BKC will be the venue for its upcoming world-class headquarters besides being a leading commercial address in Bandra-Kurla Complex, which is also home to the US Consulate, British Deputy High Commission, Asian Heart Institute, top Indian and foreign banks and hotels.

"We are confident that this property jointly developed by Jet Airways and Godrej Properties, with its strategic location and superb construction and design, will eventually emerge as one of Mumbai's premier commercial spaces," Kardassis said.

As per the arrangement between Godrej and Jet, of the total saleable area of 1.30 million square feet, around 161,460 square feet shall be used for the airline's new headquarters.
