Politicians demand head of beheaded soldier from Pak PM ahead of his visit

New Delhi, Mar.5 (ANI): Politicians in New Delhi have demanded the head of the beheaded soldier from Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf ahead of his visit to the country.

In January, three Pakistani and two Indian soldiers were killed in the worst outbreak of tit-for-tat violence in Kashmir since India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire along a de facto border there nearly a decade ago.

The bodies of the Indian soldiers were known to be beheaded and mutilated during the ceasefire violations earlier in January.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut described that action of Pakistan as inhuman and unacceptable.

"Be it the Prime Minister, or be it anyone else, if they are coming here, then we demand that they return the head of the soldier that they have cut and kept," said Raut.

The flare-up began on January 6 when Islamabad accused Indian soldiers of entering its territory and killing a soldier. India said Pakistani soldiers came about 600 metres (yards) into its territory two days later and killed two Indian soldiers on patrol, the attack the army chief was referring to.

"He should come here on his knees with his head bowed and he should ask for a heart which is not full of hatred and evil intentions. We want that he should take some peace of humanity back with him as he is coming to India after the beheading of our soldiers," said BJP lawmaker Tarun Vijay.

The recent fighting in the Himalayan region both nations claim comes at a time when the two sides have made some progress in repairing ties, notably by opening trade links.

The ceasefire in Kashmir has held since it went into effect in November 2003, surviving even the crisis in ties after the Mumbai attacks in November 2008 by Pakistan-based militants.

The two neighbouring countries have always had strained relations since the partition in 1947 and India and Pakistan have fought three wars since then, two of them over the Himalayan region that both claim but rule in part. (ANI)
