Australian bowlers restrict India (Lunch Report)

Andhra Pradesh,Sports, Sun, 03 Mar 2013 IANS

Hyderabad, March 3 (IANS) Australian bowlers made India work hard for every run in the morning session on day two of the second Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here Sunday.

India, resuming at five for no loss, could only add 49 runs to the total in 27 overs with the dangerous Virender Sehwag (6) back in the hut. Murali Vijay (29) and Cheteshwar Pujara (15) were in the middle as India trailed Australia by 183 runs. The visitors made 237 in the first innings.

Australia might have only picked Sehwag in the session but they did a good job in containing the flow of runs. Some agile fielding also helped Australia's cause.

Pace spearhead Peter Siddle dismissed Sehwag in the fifth over of the day with one that seamed away from the pitch, inducing a big edge on the way to wicket-keeper Matthew Wade. Siddle, however, failed to notice the thick edge and celebrated only when the umpire raised his finger.

Left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty, playing his first match of the series, looked good in the five overs he bowled.

Vijay and Pujara's gritty display was a positive for India, who are eying a healthy first innings lead.

On the scoring front, even an attacking batsman like Vijay consumed 106 balls for his 29.
