Atmosphere favourable for BJP, says Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Mar 1 (IANS) Exhorting partymen to work with dedication for the BJP's return to power in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, party chief Rajnath Singh Friday said the atmosphere was favourable for it and gave credit to party-ruled states for making substantial contribution in sustaining the country's GDP growth.

In his address at the Bharatiya Janata Party's national executive meeting, Rajnath Singh praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive victory in the state elecgtions and for the state's record of development.

Rajnath Singh also praised Modi for the way international community was seeking to build "new relationship" with his state.

Briefing about Rajnath Singh's speech at the national executive, the party's chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the party president exhorted workers to work with dedication for party's victory in the next Lok Sabha elections.

"We should take pledge that 2014 will be BJP's year. We have to stand united. The atmosphere in the country is in party's favour," Rajnath Singh told the meeting, according to Prasad.

The national executive meeting is preceding the two-day national council meeting of the party, where resolutions on the political and economic situations will be adopted.

Rajnath Singh also said the country's GDP growth had reached precarious levels due to policies of the United Progressive Alliance government, but "substantial contribution by BJP-ruled states" was sustaining the growth rate.

The three-day meeting is being attended by top party leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Muril Manohar Joshi besides party chief ministers, members of parliament and office-bearers.
