SP, BSP slam government over 'anti-poor, anti-farmer' Union Budget

New Delhi, Thu, 28 Feb 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Feb. 28 (ANI): The two ally partners of the UPA Government, providing crucial support from outside, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Thursday expressed their disappointment over the Union Budget and dubbed it as 'anti-poor, anti-labour and anti-farmer' budget.

SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav, while talking to reporters outside Parliament, said the budget has been prepared for only ten percent people of this country.

"It is extremely an anti-farmer, ant-labour and anti-poor budget. As long as the farmers of this country will not be empowered, India will not progress, but the government is concerned only ten percent wealthy people not for the farmers, who constitute 65 percent of the total population," said Yadav.

"It is not going to help in the financial growth of the nation, it will only benefit for those ten percent people, who are already very rich," he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, BSP chief Mayawati said the budget is very confusing and contrary to the economic survey the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram had tabled yesterday in Parliament.

"The President's speech in the beginning of this Budget Session, economic survey tabled yesterday and now this Union Budget, these all reflect the anti-poor and anti-people approach of this government. This is a totally confusing budget and contrary to what had been said in economic survey. They (government) are only concerned about the wealthy people of the country as there is nothing for unemployed youth, farmers, and middle class people in the budget," said Mayawati.

"They announce a certain amount of money for the welfare of the SC/ST communities every year, but they don't sanction the total amount to the state governments to take steps for that purpose," she added.

When asked about the government proposal to set up a 'Nirbhaya Fund' with an objective of women safety and empowerment, Mayawati said the amount mentioned in the budget is very less, keeping the total female population of the country. (ANI)
