Islamabad, Feb 28 (ANI): Pakistan and India are set to revive snooker ties between them following a long eight-year gap after the Pakistani authorities received a green signal from their government to go ahead with a series planned from March 7.
Pakistan Snooker and Billiards Association president Alamgeer Shaikh expressed gratitude towards Interior Minister Rehman Malik for allowing the board to host the Indian team, adding that he hoped that the upcoming snooker series will also help in reviving other sporting relations between the bitter neighbours, the Daily Times reports.
The board also said that a four-member Indian team will arrive in Karachi on March 6 for the upcoming series, whose format is set to be decided next week.
The popularity of snooker is rising fast in the sub-continent, with India producing world amateur champion Pankaj Advani in 2003 and Pakistan's Mohammad Asif, who is the current title holder.
All sporting ties between India and Pakistan were frozen after the deadly attacks on Mumbai in 2008, which were blamed on Pakistan-based militants, the report added. (ANI)
