Mumbai, Feb. 27 (ANI): The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday sought apology from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over allegedly attacking Raj Thackeray's convoy yesterday night.
Reportedly, angry NCP workers pelted stones at vehicles in Raj Thackeray's convoy and waved black flags at him last night over his speech, criticizing NCP president Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Ram Kadam, an MNS leader, expressed his ire over the incident and said that the NCP workers should apolosige for attacking his party chief.
"The workers who attacked the convoy of Raj Thackeray should apologise," said Kadam.
Following the attack and clash aftermath, MNS activists in retaliation came out in droves, targeted NCP offices in south Mumbai and suburbs, as well as Ahmednagar, Nanded, Akola, Yavatmal, Parbhani, Thane, damaged vehicles, and burnt Ajit Pawar's effigy.
Later the police reached the spot, resorted to baton charge and arrested the protesting MNS workers.
Madhukar Shanke, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said that around 15 workers were arrested and the probe was underway.
"I came to know that the workers tried to set an effigy on fire so we have detained them. We have sent around 15 workers to the police station. I don't know whose effigy they have burnt as I have just reached the spot. I am conducting an enquiry," said Shanke.
Police has beefed up security and the situation is under control. (ANI)
