Parrikar's son got industrial plot out of turn: Congress

Goa,Politics, Tue, 26 Feb 2013 IANS

Panaji, Feb 26 (IANS) Goa's opposition Congress Tuesday accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of nepotism in allotting an industrial plot, out of turn, to his son at a newly-started industrial estate in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Sudeep Tamhankar said the chief minister's son Abhijat Manohar Prabhu Parrikar has been allotted a plot at Tuem industrial estate, 30 km from here, out of turn.

"Parrikar is also chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), which allots these plots," he said, adding the plot was allotted to Parrikar's son after the BJP came to power last year.

"This is a clear case of nepotism," Tamhankar said. "The chief minister, who is also the chairman of the IDC has favoured his son. The very fact that Abhijat's name ranks first on the list of allottees smacks of unfair practice."

Allotment of plots in Goa's industrial estates has been a matter of debate here, with Parrikar, as opposition leader, leading the charge against illegal allotment of plots.

An enquiry conducted by a specially appointed task force had revealed large-scale illegalities in plot allotment under the Congress-led regime too.

Parrikar could not be contacted for comment, despite repeated attempts.
