New Delhi, Feb.24 (ANI): Over 450 artists painted on a one kilometre long wall of Delhi University to express their thoughts for bringing a positive change in Indian society.
The central theme of this event, named as 'The Delhi Wall Book', is primarily based on social issues. The theme has been termed as, 'Design the Change'.
Similar events were organised by a company, Vantro Motions India, in Mumbai city last year in May.
The Wall Book will also be painted on the streets of other Indian cities, like Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Pune.
It would be an opportunity for the amateur artists to voice their concerns over issues like, crime against women, social discriminations and other social evils that continue to haunt Indian society.
"It is an initiative where we bring in artists to paint the street furniture, the wall, which are unkempt and which is in the middle of the city and we are also, in this process, giving the artists a chance, to give kind of a free creative bay, so that they can address the social issues well," said the organiser of the event, Sunil Kutty Mennon.
Crimes against women like rape, molestation and violence have always been a burning issue in India, but the recent Delhi gangrape of a 23-year old physiotherapist brought a nationwide focus on the issue with many calling in for stricter anti-rape laws.
Sexual violence against women in largely patriarchal India is widespread, say gender rights activists, and crimes such as rape, dowry murders, acid attacks, honour killings, child marriages and human trafficking are common. (ANI)
