Shastri backs Tendulkar to make 'one last mark' in Australia-India Test series

Sydney, Mon, 18 Feb 2013 ANI

Sydney, Feb 18 (ANI): Former Indian captain Ravi Shastri has said that cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar is set to prove his genius in one last series against Australia, to lead India to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The former opener said that he had detected a renewed sense of determination in the Little Master, to star in what may be the final act in his career, and warned the Australian bowlers to get ready for a depressing six weeks on the subcontinent, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to Shastri, Tendulkar is eager to make a comeback from a long slump in his form, and added that although he may be nervous, he will be able to make a mark in this series if he can score a 50, 60 or 70 against Australia in the first two Test matches.

Shastri further said that with the break that Tendulkar had for a couple of months, he is ready to make a comeback with a bang, and added that for that to happen, the Little Master has to play his natural game.

Shastri also said that he wanted Tendulkar to be positive and not get into a defensive mode.

Tendulkar will enter the series starting Friday with two centuries from his past five first-class innings, including an unbeaten 140. There is speculation in the subcontinent that the upcoming series will be Tendulkar's last before he bows out of international cricket, the paper added. (ANI)
