Indian-origin Oz women cricketer Sthalekar not to hang up boots soon

Sydney , Sun, 17 Feb 2013 ANI

Sydney, Feb 17 (ANI): Veteran Australian women cricketer Lisa Sthalekar is not contemplating retiring yet, however, the ongoing World Cup is set to be her last appearance at the biggest tournament of all.

A cursory glance at Australia's women's World Cup squad, dominated by players in their early 20s, reveals only one of the 15 has reached her 30th birthday, and is almost four years older than the next eldest, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Sthalekar said for a number of years now she has been the nanna of the group so it doesn't really matter, adding the girls tend to tease her a fair bit and go 'How are you going, old girl? Are you still surviving?'

Sthalekar added she actually gets a real buzz about looking back..

While this World Cup will almost certainly be Sthalekar's final major international tournament - it is her third 50-over World Cup, alongside three World Twenty20s, the veteran is not in any way staggering to the finish line.

She proved that in the Super Sixes win against England where her 82-run partnership with Sarah Coyte rescued the Stars from a perilous 5-32.

Sthalekar, who is ranked second in the world among bowlers and also all-rounders, said she thinks she has always tried to ensure that whilst she decide to keep playing that she is still playing at the highest level she can.

The Indian-born cricketer said for her whole career she has always wanted to be in the thick of it: score runs, take wickets, field the ball, adding those kind of rankings justify her enthusiasm and that things are still going along nicely. (ANI)
