Ranchi, Feb 15 (IANS) Three young men were Friday beaten to death by a mob for trying to molest a woman in a Jharkhand village, police said.
The incident occurred in Sawaria village in Gumla district, 140 km from here.
The youths were involved in criminal activities and used to harass women and girls in the area at gunpoint, a police official told IANS.
One of the men tried to molest a woman at gunpoint Friday. But the villagers gathered and started beating them with sticks and stones, the official said.
Police recovered two revolvers, live cartridges and three mobile phones from the bodies.
A village woman told a TV channel that the youths had tried to molest the woman thus provoking the villagers into thrashing them. Their threatening the villagers with their guns further angered the villagers, she said.
In December last year too, five people were lynched in Khuti district for sexually harassing women.
