Congress, BJP work for Karnataka: Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu,Politics, Fri, 15 Feb 2013 IANS

Chennai, Feb 15 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Friday urged her party cadres to work hard so that the AIADMK wins all 40 Lok Sabha seats (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry) in the next general elections.

She said a sweeping victory would help form a central government that listens to the state.

Listing the various demands of her government that were turned down by the centre, Jayalalithaa told party workers: "To make Tamil Nadu the number one state in India; to prevent Cauvery delta region from turning into a desert; to reclaim Tamil Nadu's rights and to have a central government that listens to the just demands of the state, you should work hard to win all the 40 seats in the next general elections."

Speaking at a function where she solemnised the wedding of 65 couples here, Jayalalithaa charged the two national parties - Congress and BJP - with working in the interests of Karnataka, as both parties have more at stake in the neighbouring state.

The BJP is in power in Karnataka, and the Congress hopes to return to power there.

"The two parties, even if they stand upside down, cannot form government in Tamil Nadu," Jayalalithaa said.
